Employer Supported Volunteering

In 2007 The ESV Committee, with the help of Martin Howell (Business in the Community), appointed PIPS (Public Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide and Self-harm) as their charity to partner for the
next two years.

Philip Taggart, following the suicide of his 17-year-old son, started PIPS in 2003. PIPS is a locally based charity who through offering a 24 hour help line service, providing information and training in applied suicide intervention skills for community volunteers, hope to save lives and support those affected by suicide and self harm.

Over the past twelve months the ESV Committee with the support of staff, family and friends have organised many fundraising events including 2 relay teams running the Belfast marathon, a Halloween Fancy Dress Ball, monthly "dress-down" days and card making. Many more events are in the planning stages for the coming year as well as offering BIH staff member's skill bases to PIPS.
